We thought we were doing whatever we wanted to do and being “free,” but really were under the vicious rule of our sinful desires. This is shown through the way our lives were lived. We were controlled by that which ultimately leads to death. This term has such a negative connotation in our American minds where we live in the “Home of the Free!” but are we truly free? Are we really in control of our own lives? The reality is we as human beings were never meant to be completely independent and on our own. In the New Testament in the opening verse of almost every epistle, Paul refers to himself as a slave to Jesus Christ. He wants us to devote our entire beings to being servants of God. Meaning we are following his footsteps and learning from His life every single day. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:3-6Ĭhrist wants us to be disciples of Him. That is how we know we are living for Him. But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. If someone claims ‘I know God’ but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. “And we can be sure that we know Him if we obey His commandments. On again off again Christianity is not real Christianity. Really, Christianity is not simply a religion. Meaning it requires a lot more than most people who claim to be Christians give. Christianity is not a one day a week religion. When our “Christian” life simply involves going to church on Sundays and an occasional prayer when times get tough, before you eat, and before you sleep, how does that represent our namesake? The number one reason for atheism is Christians who accept Christ on Sundays and in times of trouble, but walk out the door and deny him with their actions. By being called Christians, we bear the holy, all powerful name of Jesus Christ.
